Paper 34: Midterm Outcomes of Meniscal Allograft Transplantation in the Adolescent Population
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objectives: To report midterm outcomes following primary meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) from a single surgeon in an adolescent population. Methods: A retrospective review was performed to identify patients <18 years old at the time of MAT 1999-2016. International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscales, Lysholm scores were collected preoperatively 1-year, 2-years, minimum 5-years follow-up. Results: Forty-four (female n=33; male n=11) 62 identified (71%) met inclusion criteria with mean follow-up 9.5 ± 3.8 (range: 5.0-17.7). Isolated 27 (61.3%) patients. Common concomitant procedures included osteochondral (OCA) (n=14, 31.8%), autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) (n=8, 18.1%), anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) (n=6, 13.6%) (Table 1). Eleven (25%) required reoperation average 5.9 4.5 0.8 – 14.0) post-transplant. Three (6.8%) for failure, requiring revision 1.1 2.8-4.9) Graft survivability 1, 2, 5, 10 100.0%, 93.2%, respectively (Figure When compared preoperative scores, significant increases Lysholm, IKDC, KOOS subscales observed 2-year, most recent 2 Supplemental Table 90% reported satisfaction their current physical status. Conclusions: At follow-up, population resulted predictable improvements functional outcomes. These maintained years. The rate 25% 71.3% probability being free 5 while graft 93.2% extant literature profiling adult population, adolescents who undergo demonstrate similar survivability. [Table: see text]

متن کاملCurrent Meniscal Allograft Transplantation
Meniscal allograft transplantation is now gradually transforming from an interesting alternative in meniscal restoration algorithms to a reliable treatment of unicompartmental knee pain after meniscectomy. The past decade has allowed refinements in sizing, preservation, and fixation of the meniscal allograft. Current techniques focus on adherence to biomechanical principles in attempting to dup...

PURPOSE Meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) has become an accepted treatment option for patients undergoing meniscectomy with recalcitrant pain in the corresponding compartment. Whether MAT can oppose cartilage degeneration is unclear. Our purpose was to perform a systematic review of available literature to answer the following: (1) Does MAT prevent advancing chondrosis? (2) Who is the id...
متن کاملMeniscal allograft transplantation in rabbit.
This study evaluated the technique for meniscal allograft transplantation using allografts preserved in glycerin 98% in rabbits. Euthanasia was performed at 70 days to compare the transplanted (TM1 to TM16) versus the contralateral meniscus (OM1 to OM16). Sixteen menisci, 8 transplanted and 8 contralateral, were submitted to gross examination, histomorphometric analysis for identification and q...
متن کاملA prospective outcomes study of meniscal allograft transplantation.
BACKGROUND Symptomatic early-onset chondromalacia often develops after a meniscectomy in the affected knee compartment. The role of meniscal transplantation in reducing pain and improving function in patients with prior ipsilateral meniscectomy is still being defined. HYPOTHESIS Patients with symptomatic early-onset chondromalacia of the knee after ipsilateral meniscectomy will have improved ...
